5th Annual Toy Drive

The holidays for some are a joyous, exciting time of reflection, hope, and appreciation with their loved ones. For families that are struggling the feelings can be less positive. Children are often the hardest hit…

It’s easy to take for granted the things we’re blessed with while others struggle for the basic necessities to survive. Help us bring some joy back into OUR community.

Once again, we’re organizing the Ripped City Holiday Giveback for local Portland children in need. Last year our event donated thousands of dollars of toys from our passionate partners and we can’t wait to do it even bigger this year! We were able to bring smiles to numerous children's faces who otherwise may not have had a delightful holiday season.

ABOUT

New Avenues for Youth is a Portland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention and intervention of youth homelessness. Our services for young people (ages 9-24) focus on the individual—their experiences, identities, needs, and goals—and help them make positive changes in their lives. From meals and counseling to job training and housing, our equity-based services address the many barriers to stability and well-being that young people face. Each and every day, we show up in compassionate, creative ways, ensuring that they always have a place to turn.

STORY

New Avenues’ founding in 1997 was a response to the growing numbers of youth experiencing homelessness in downtown Portland. While intervention in street homelessness remains central to our efforts, prevention—or reaching young people earlier to stop homelessness before it starts—is increasingly a strategic focus for us. In fact, more than half of our budget is devoted to it. And for good reason: gentrification, historical and institutional racism, rising housing costs, and the COVID-19 pandemic have displaced, marginalized, and isolated low-income and BIPOC communities in the region, with housing instability and homelessness on the rise.

From meals and counseling to job training and housing, our equity-based services address the many barriers to stability and well-being that young people face. Each and every day, we show up in compassionate, creative ways, ensuring that they always have a place to turn.

ABOUT

With Love is a non-profit organization honored to support foster families by providing safe, clean and quality clothing and supplies for children ages 0-6. Many times, foster parents find out they are receiving a child mere hours before bringing them home. For that reason, they are often unprepared and overwhelmed. We strive to provide families with everything they may need, from clothes to car seats and toys to diapers, so they can focus on loving their little one. Our organization runs on the generosity of volunteers and donors.

WHY THEY DO IT

In 2016, almost one out of every 100 children were in an Oregon foster care system, nearly double the national average. Adding to that troubling statistic is the reality that being a foster family comes with a lot of expenses. Allie Roth recognized this growing need and founded With Love – a community committed to offering dignity, hope, and support to Portland’s foster families.
